The Trump administration announced Tuesday it is cutting an additional $450 million in federal grants to Harvard University, citing the institution’s “failure to confront pervasive race discrimination and anti-semitic harassment.” The new cuts, coming from eight federal agencies, add to the $2.2 billion already frozen last week.
The Joint Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism called Harvard a “breeding ground for virtue signalling and discrimination” in a statement announcing the decision.
The move deepens a growing standoff between the White House and the Ivy League university, which is already suing the administration over the initial funding freeze. Harvard has not yet responded to the latest cuts, though President Alan Garber previously defended the university’s constitutional rights and vowed to fight the administration’s actions in court.
